Pre School

Compton Dundon Preschool is in danger of closing in September 2007. It currently only has 2 children on their roll for next September. Compton Dundon Preschool was started by village parents in 2002 from a need established by the weekly Parents and Toddlers group. The preschool is regulated by Ofsted and had a very good rating in it’s last report. It is registered to provide care for up to 16 2 – 5 year olds. It runs from Tuesday to Friday at Compton Dundon village hall. Committee member Cec Marshman says “The Preschool has always been very popular with parents and children in the village, and the number of children attending has never been a problem before. We currently have 10 children on our roll but 8 of them are starting at the village primary school this year. This leaves us with only 2 children for next September. It is just a blip that there are no children in Compton Dundon who are able to start at the preschool. Unless we find more children then the committee of volunteers will have to seriously consider whether the preschool will run next September.” The Preschool management committee is made up of volunteers who manage the preschool and it’s funding. They employ 2 members of qualified staff who run the actual preschool sessions. It will be possible to run the preschool for a short time but this would eat up all the committees reserves which they hope to use to relocate the preschool to their own building, sited at the village school. Note: We are collecting Active Kids 07 vouchers from Sainburys and Computers for Schools from Tesco. Boxes are in the foyer of the Hall.

Milk Deliveries

Did you realise that every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday we have fresh milk delivered door to door by Trevor, our friendly milkman? The milk (whole, semi-skimmed etc.) comes in glass bottles which are returned, leaving just a foil top to recycle. Trevor also delivers fruit juice, organic fruit and vegetable boxes, cheese, eggs, biscuits, tea, soft drinks, potatoes and even meat. Be GREEN—phone Dairy Crest on 832484 to start deliveries. He is coming round the village anyway!
